Get Grouping
Can't find a group that's right for you? Creating a group is cinch.
Let's say your family has a connection to Jamestown... or the Choctaw... or maternal haplogroup A, but no groups appear in your search. No worries! You can create a new Group and act as Administrator.

Join the Club
Last name gets things started, but so does ethnic origin, time period, location-any common factor that brings people together.
We'll show you how it works...
Many DNA-oriented groups just compare test results. Our groups are a bit more dynamic than typical Surname Project, Ancestral Location, Mitochondrial, or Geographic Groups:
- Ancestry.com DNA Group members aren't required to have DNA results. So invite everyone!
- Any member can contribute interesting info: pictures, videos, discussions, documents and more.
- Groups start with any commonality-geography, haplogroup, last name...
- The members set the spirit of the group. Some groups are document-rich and research oriented, while others are celebratory, making emotional connections.
Now see the nuts and bolts...
- Enter a term in the search field below. "Jones" or "mayflower" or "haplogroup H" are a few terms that lead to connections.
- Submit a request to join the groups you discover. Once the administrator approves your request, you can start participating!
Participant matches are another way to find interesting groups. If you have DNA in common, you may want to join the same groups.
To find a list of the groups from your participant matches:
- Click on the name of a participant.
- Their profile will display the DNA groups to which they belong - groups that you might wish to join.
Everyone is Welcome
Anyone can join Ancestry.com DNA Groups. DNA results do make things more fun, so we let you bring them over if you didn't get tested with us. But we even let you join if you don't have test results.
